Therapy as part of integrated psychiatric care
Supportive psychotherapy at Mental Health Abounds is woven into the fabric of your psychiatric treatment — it is not a separate service or a standalone program. It provides a warm, consistent space to process what's happening in your life, build coping skills, and stay connected to your care goals between medication management appointments.
This is an important distinction: we offer supportive therapy as a complement to psychiatric evaluation and medication management, not as a replacement for dedicated psychotherapy. If you need intensive therapeutic work, we will help connect you with the right specialist.
What supportive therapy looks like
Sessions vary based on your needs. Sometimes that means working through a specific challenge — a difficult relationship, a major life transition, a setback in treatment. Other times it means building practical coping strategies, processing recent events, or simply having a consistent, nonjudgmental presence to help you feel grounded.
Hilda combines active listening with evidence-based techniques from CBT, motivational interviewing, and psychoeducation — tailored to where you are and what you need in each session.
Who benefits most
Supportive psychotherapy is especially valuable for patients who are navigating a new psychiatric diagnosis, adjusting to medication, managing a chronic mental health condition, or going through a significant life change. It provides continuity, accountability, and a therapeutic relationship that strengthens the overall impact of your care.
If you're unsure whether supportive therapy is right for you, we're happy to discuss it during your evaluation or any follow-up appointment.
