What to expect at your first evaluation
Your first psychiatric evaluation is a dedicated 60–90 minute conversation. Hilda will take the time to understand the full picture of who you are — your mental health history, current symptoms, past treatments, family history, physical health, lifestyle, and what you're hoping to achieve from care.
This is not a checklist appointment. It's a collaborative, open conversation designed to give you space to share what you've been experiencing without judgment. You will never feel rushed or reduced to a diagnosis.
What we assess
A comprehensive evaluation looks at mood, anxiety, attention, sleep, trauma history, substance use, and how your symptoms affect daily functioning — at work, in relationships, and at home. We also consider hormonal influences, especially for women at different stages of life.
We gather this information to arrive at an accurate, nuanced understanding of your needs — not just a label. This forms the foundation of a personalized care plan that may include medication, supportive therapy, referrals, or a combination.
After your evaluation
At the end of your evaluation, Hilda will walk you through her clinical impressions and proposed treatment plan in plain language. You'll have the opportunity to ask questions, voice concerns, and shape the plan together. Nothing is decided without your understanding and agreement.
Follow-up appointments are scheduled based on your care plan — typically every 4–6 weeks at the start, then monthly or quarterly as your care stabilizes.
